Tizza Covi

Tizza Covi was born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1971. She lived in Paris and Berlin before studying photography at the Vienna Higher College for Graphic Art. After finishing her studies she went to Rome where she worked as a photographer. She has won several scholarships for her photographic work.
 

Since 1996 Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel are working together in photography, theatre, and movie projects.
In 2002 they founded their own film production company Vento Film to produce their  films independently.
They won several awards for their documentaries, including the Wolfgang Staudte Award at the Berlinale for Babooska.
“La Pivellina”, the first fiction film of Tizza Covi  and Rainer Frimmel, was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and was Austria`s offical entry for the Oscars 2011.
In 2007 they were honored with the “Österreichischen Förderungspreis für Filmkunst” and in 2013 with the “Österreichischen Kunstpreis für Filmkunst”.

Tizza Covi, geboren 1971 in Bozen, besuchte von 1992 bis 1994 das Kolleg für Fotografie an der Graphischen Lehranstalt in Wien und arbeitete anschließend bis 1998 als freie Fotografin in Rom. Sie erhielt für ihre fotografische Arbeit Auslandsstipendien in Rom und Paris.

Seit 1996 arbeiten Tizza Covi und Rainer Frimmel gemeinsam an Projekten in den Bereichen Fotografie, Theater und Film.
2002 gründeten sie die Filmproduktionsfirma Vento Film, um ihre Filme unabhängig zu produzieren.
Sie erhielten für ihre Dokumentarfilme zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, u.a. den Wolfgang-Staudte-Preis auf der Berlinale.
Ihr erster Spielfilm „La Pivellina“ wurde mit dem Europa Cinemas Label in Cannes prämiert und war Österreichs offizieller Beitrag für die Oscars 2011. Sie erhielten im Jahr 2007 den Österreichischen Förderungspreis für Filmkunst und 2013 den Österreichischen Kunstpreis für Filmkunst.
