Sebastian Brameshuber (*1981) studied scenography at the Vienna University of Applied Arts and contemporary arts at the audiovisual research institute Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains in France. His interest in film and moving images was triggered by works of the so-called Austrian avant-garde cinema. His first 3-minute-film Preserving Cultural Traditions in a Period of Instability playfully took up this tradition and premiered at the Viennale in 2004, screening at over thirty international film festivals subsequently.
In 2009, his first feature length film Muezzin premiered at the Karlovy Vary IFF 2009. It continued to screen at numerous international film festivals, was awarded “Best Documentary” at Medfilm Festival Rome 2010 and broadcasted by TV stations like ARTE, ORF, NHK Japan, among others. His second feature length film And There We Are, in the Middle celebrated its world premiere in the Forum section of the Berlinale 2014 and was nominated for the Austrian Film Award as “Best Documentary”. Both Muezzin and And There We Are, in the Middle were released in Austrian theatres and have been published in renowned Austrian DVD editions.
In 2015, he was again showing at the Berlinale and nominated for a “Golden Bear” in the short film category with Of Stains, Scrap & Tires, later that year the film got awarded “Best Austrian Short Film” at VIS Vienna Independent Shorts. His short film In, Over & Out premiered at the Viennale 2015 and went on to screen at EXiS Seoul, Karlovy Vary IFF, BFI London IFF, among others. At the Alternative Film/Video Festival Belgrade it was awarded by the jury Marina Grzinic, Eve Heller and Peter Tscherkassky.
In 2019 his new feature film Movements of a Nearby Mountain will world premiere at Cinéma du Réel festival in the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Since 2004, Brameshuber’s work has been continuously present and occasionally awarded at renowned film and media art festivals such as the Berlinale, Viennale, Cinéma du Réel, FID Marseille, BAFICI, Karlovy Vary FF, Sarajevo FF, EMAF Osnabrueck, Impakt Utrecht, Media Art Friesland, etc. For international distribution of his films he collaborates with Cinephil (ISR), sixpackfilm (AT) and Filmgarten (AT). He lives and works primarily in Vienna.

Sebastian Brameshuber studierte Bühnen- und Filmgestaltung an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien und zeitgenössischen Film am audiovisuellen Recherchezentrum Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains in Frankreich. Seit 2004 werden seine Arbeiten regelmäßig bei Film- und Medienkunstfestivals wie beispielsweise Berlinale, Viennale, Cinéma du Réel, FID Marseille, BAFICI, Karlovy Vary FF, Sarajevo FF, EMAF Osnabrueck, Impakt Utrecht, Media Art Friesland, gezeigt und manchmal auch ausgezeichnet. Nach Muezzin im Jahr 2009 und Und in der Mitte, da sind wir 2014 ist Bewegungen eines nahen Bergs sein dritter Langfilm.
